GutGard® and it’s development
Digestive disturbances are affecting more individuals than ever, largely due to stress and dietary habits (eg: nutritionally lacking, as well as eating quickly, on the run). These factors combine to create a host of issues such as gas and bloating, acid reflux/heartburn, stomach griping, flatulence, diarrhea, cramps, and constipation. Poor digestion leads to lack of energy, poor sleep, and overall malaise.
GutGard® goes beyond deglycyrrhization, as conventional DGL extracts lack bioactive flavonoids found in the root. GutGard® is extracted using a unique extraction process that retrieves the bioactive flavonoid profile. It is standardized to contain 10% total flavonoids no more than 0.5% glycyrrhizin. And the key difference between GutGard® and DGL extract is that DGL extracts typically contain negligible amounts of flavonoids – in fact, DGL is a product obtained following the removal of glycyrrhizin and is not standardized to any biologically active constituents. GutGard® is closer to nature than DGL as acids are not used in its production process, whereas DGL production involves treatment with acids/alkali.
GutGard® for daily digestive health
GutGard is a clinically tested nutraceutical ingredient that reduces gastro intestinal irritation and discomfort. GutGard is derived from the natural Glycyrrhiza glabra(liquorice) plant and contains high levels of glabridin.
GutGard® is the only of its class to offer the advantage of the cache of flavonoids found in licorice. More than 50 flavonoids including isoflavans (glabridin), Isoflavones (example: licoflavone A), Isoflavanones (example: glabrol), chalcones (example: isoliquiritigenin), etc, have been identified in GutGard® by using liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Batch to batch consistency of the flavonoid profile is monitored with the help of high-performance liquid chromatography.

Dose
75 mg, two times a day after food
Duration
30 days
Evaluation
On day 15 and day 30
Outcome
GutGard® effectively managed the symptoms read more of functional dyspepsia (upper abdominal fullness, belching, regurgitation, upper abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, and vomiting) GutGard® improved quality of life

Objective
To determine the anti-ulcer and antioxidant potential of GutGard®
Dose
12.5, 25, and 50 mg per kg
Test
The effect of GutGard® was studied on gastric read more ulcers in pylorus ligation-, cold-restraint stress- and indomethacin-induced gastric mucosal injury in rats.
Evaluation
Anti-ulcer activity was evaluated by measuring the ulcer read more index, gastric content, total acidity, and pH of gastric fluid. The antioxidant activity was evaluated by the oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC) assay. GutGard® exhibited potent antioxidant activity with high hydrophilic and lipophilic ORAC value.
Outcome
GutGard® possessed anti-ulcerogenic properties read more that might be afforded via a cytoprotective mechanism by virtue of its antioxidant properties. These results supported the ethnomedical uses of licorice in the treatment of gastric ulcer.
Objective
To evaluate the gastroprokinetic effect of read more flavonoid-rich root extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra (GutGard®) and glabridin in albino Wistar rats using the phenol red meal model.
Test
Gastroprokinetic effect using Phenol red meal model
Dose
Various dose levels of GutGard® (6.25, 12.5, and 25 mg per kg)
Evaluation
The gastroprokinetic effect of flavonoid-rich root read more extract of Glycyrrhiza glabra, the effect of glabridin on gastric emptying and gastrointestinal transit were also explored.
Outcome
Rats treated with GutGard® exhibited a read more statistically significant increase in percentage gastric emptying as well as gastrointestinal transit over the normal control group. Gastric emptying of GutGard® and glabridin is comparable to domperidone, a potent prokinetic agent.
GutGard®: Mechanisms of action
Various studies have shown that GutGard® supports digestive functioning
through several mechanisms of action:
- Possess antioxidant properties (Inhibits DPPH, ABTS) and possess good ORAC
- Works against H. pylori (in vitro inhibited H. pylori protein synthesis, DNA gyrase and dihydrofolate reductase)
- Acts as a prokinetic agent; modulates gut motility
- Reduces inflammatory mediators like PGE2, TXB2, LTB4 NO, IL-1beta and IL-6
- Acts as a gastroprotective
